We need to change our thought life. Many of us still struggle with the negative thoughts that run through our minds. Thoughts of depression, fear, hopelessness, frustrations, anger and bitterness. We need to change how we think. We are what we think. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). This means that our thoughts are powerful. What we are thinking about usually shows up in the things we say and do. The word of God can change our mind set. Only his word can illuminate the errors of our thoughts. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” We are to think about positive things, things that are true and things that are worthy of praise. We should not think on negative things, things that make us sad and bring us down. It is essential we think about things that will uplift and encourage.
We are born in a sin sick world. As we grow up we learn wrong mind sets and wrong thinking. Many of us before we became saved would react negatively to the things people said to us or did to us. Some of us who are saved are still dealing with the same negative thoughts. In Romans 12:2 it says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. When we become saved God can transform our minds. He can change how we think and how we react to different situations. The change comes when we renew our minds with the word of God. Daily we should seek God in his word, in prayer and in worship.
Before God came into our lives we thought it was alright to do certain things and go to certain places. When God comes into our lives we start to change how we think. Changing from the old man into the new man. We stop talking the way we use to. We become cognizant about the words we use. We stop going to the places we use to, because we realize God is with us everywhere we go. His word says he will never leave us nor forsake us and he is always by our sides. We stop doing the thing we use to do, like partying and drinking. We want to live a holy and righteous life. Realizing we cannot change ourselves. Only God can change us from the inside out. Only he can change a sinner into a saint.
Let us start today changing how we think. Be intentional about changing our negative thinking patterns. Dwell and abide in God’s word every day. Let it permeate your soul and spirit, change you from the inside out.
Remember that we are what we think. Our thought life guides our life. What are you thinking about that is stopping you from doing God’s will? What are you thinking about that has you stuck and you can move forward? Today feed your mind with positive thoughts. What we allow to permeate our minds is what will show up in our actions and the words we speak. Change your thinking and be all that God created you to be.
