Who Is Your God?

Many times we put other things before God.  God is last when it comes to our priorities, instead of being first.  We make gods out of other things.  We make material things and our relationships more important than the true and living God.  We put God last in our lives and not first.

We tend to forget that God is faithful.  We call on him at any time of the day and he is always there to help.  Despite of our faults and short comings, he still loves us and cares for us.  In 1 Peter 5:7 it says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”  All God wants is for us to be faithful to him and do what he has commanded us to do.  We tend to forget that everything we have belongs to God.  All the things we have is because he blessed us with them.  Many times we turn our backs on him after he has provided for all of our needs.  We are just like the children of Israel as soon as God cleans us up and puts us back on the right path, we go back to serving our idol gods.

Are we serving idol gods and not the true and living God?  Instead of going to bible study on Tuesday are we at home watching our favorite television program?  Are we making our daily schedule around what is going to be on television?  If your idol god is not television maybe it’s the clothes you wear? Maybe it’s your cell phone, electronic gadgets, computer, home, car, looks, food, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, lying, stealing, or even your job to name a few?

What thing in our lives have we put before God?  Why can’t we carve out some time each day to spend with God?  We have a God who loves us. Remember he sent his only begotten son to die for us, so we would not be lost in our sins.  He provides for us every day.  We would not have the things we have unless God allowed us to have it.  We take it for granted that he will continue to provide for us.

Is your idol god fear?  When God tells you to step out in faith do you let fear stop you?  Are you sitting down on the dreams and visions God has given you?  In 2Timothy 1:7 it says that “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  We should never let fear stop us from doing the will of God.

Today stop letting those idol gods dim your relationship with God.  Ask God today to reveal the idol gods in your life.  Pray and ask him to reveal the things you have made more important than him in your life.  Our God is jealous.  It says in Exodus 34:14 that “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:”  He is not pleased when we put other things before him.  God wants to bless us.  He wants us to love him, like he loves us.  He wants us to put him first in everything we do.

Now who is your God?  In Matthew 6:24 it says that “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”  We cannot serve God and our idol gods.  Today put God first.  Stop letting other things be more important than the relationship you have with God.  If you put God first he will show you favor.  He will open doors for you.  He will bless you with the desires of your heart.  Do not ever forget who God is and what he means to you.
