Do Not Fear

Do Not Fear

Who would have thought that we would be dealing with a virus that would affect almost every corner of the world? Now we are waiting for this storm to blow over. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by the corona virus. Where I live in Detroit, Michigan this virus has caused a lot of devastation.  When I was out grocery shopping, I could see the fear and worry in some people faces.  As Christians the only thing we can do is encourage the people around us and let them know God is still in control. During times like this we must put our trust in God.  He is our hope and peace.

We cannot let fear overtake us. God’s word says in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”  God is our light; he is the one who illuminates the dark places in our life and saves our souls.  If he can bring us out of darkness and save us from sin, then why do we let fear overcome us when trouble comes?  Fear is just false evidence appearing real.  Fear will have us believing the worst is going to happen.

The second part of Psalm 27:1 says the Lord is the strength of our lives.  He gives us strength when we are weak.  He is the one who protects us from all harm and danger.  He protects us from dangers seen and unseen.  If he is our strength, then why are we afraid of the unknown. In Psalm 46:1 it says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  In times of trouble he will give us refuge.  He will provide safety from all harm and danger.  He is our strength and will uphold us with his righteous hand.  Then why are we afraid of what might happen, when we have a God who is always there for us.  He will never leave us, nor forsake us.  He is fighting for us and shielding us from anything the enemy would put in our paths.

We must hold on to our faith in times of trouble.  We must believe and trust in God and not fear what might happen.  When fear rises in us, we need to get on our knees in prayer, read the bible or put some praise music on.  Whatever we can do to get our minds on God will help.  He is our anchor when our world is turning upside down.

Now is the time to turn to God, instead running away from him.  I have learned that he always has a better plan than anything I could think of on my own.  God’s word says the battle is his and I have learned to let him handle the battles in my life.  He knows what we are going through.  He knows us and he knows the enemy that is trying to destroy us.  In times of trouble we must seek him in prayer and leave our problems at his feet.  He has not lost a battle; trust that he will bring us through whatever we are facing.  Just let go and let God.  Let him handle your problems today.
